Amendments to the new Constitution have been initiated (99th Sitting of Bureau)

Draft Amendments to the Constitution of Georgia, that aim to reflect recommendations made by the Venice Commissions, have been registered at the Bureau:

  • Constitutional grounds for restriction of Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Conscience to be specified, and the phrases 'State Security', 'Crime prevention' 'Execution of Justice' to be removed.
  • Removal of the so called 'Bonus system' 
  • Time limits for the consideration of an applicable lawsuit on the matter of Unconstitutional Elections or Unconstitutional Election norms, to be increased by 3 months. Provision, according to which the Constitutional Court defines the constitutionality of the Elections based on the full consensus of the list composition, is to be removed.
  • Apart for the political parties, political blocs will be allowed to participate in the next Parliamentary Elections.
  • Term 'Khmosani' to be replaced by the term 'Member of the Electoral Board'
